Phonique — Lyrics, Songs
Michael Vater, better known as Phonique, moved to Berlin in the mid-90s, where he quickly became a prominent figure in the city's nightlife. He initially organized parties, which soon attracted attention, and over time, he started DJing himself, developing his career as a DJ. His parties and playlists became known for their diversity of styles – from hip-hop to drum’n’bass – which made him popular among a wide range of audiences. Since 1998, he began inviting lesser-known DJs and producers to Berlin, including names like Glen Gunner and Joakim.
Phonique actively toured the world, playing in clubs from São Paulo to Tel Aviv, but Berlin remained his main base. His residencies at iconic clubs like Tresor and Pfefferbank, as well as the release of his own mix CD in 2002, helped solidify his status. Starting his career with releases on labels like Intim Recordings, he soon found himself under the wings of Poker Flat and Dessous. His remixes for artists such as Erlend Øye and Rosenstolz earned him recognition in the club scene.
The release of his debut album "Identification" in 2004 marked a breakthrough: he collaborated with a number of prominent artists and gained international recognition, including top spots on the iTunes dance charts.
