Tamino - A Drop Of Blood lyrics

[Tamino - A Drop Of Blood lyrics]

I've seen the trees
In heart of storm
In clearest skies
I've seen them breathe
I've seen them fall
I've seen them fly

The gentle breeze that stirs their crown
Flows from the storm that lays them down
Oh may we fight
And may we waltz
And may we find harmony
Like wind and tree

I've seen the sea
Give men a home
And drown them too
I've seen her lead
Men back to shore
To start anew

But it's never long before
An old yearning rises for
The cradled nights
The siren's call
Let me always return to thee
Like sailors to the sea

One day I fell
And broke my wrist
And lay still on the ground
Ants were carrying little twigs
Over my still hand
Some kids around were scorning me
Yet I heard no sound
Then as they started to kick my back
I sank into the sand

Deep down, sank deep down
Till I was part of everything
And in a grain of sand
Saw peace in holy land
Saw you right in front of me
Shapeless, sacred dust
Beaming light and trust
Covering all harm in shade
Then in a drop of blood
Saw wars be fought for good
And saw you make way for man's truth

Just for a while
Though just enough
To lose my youth
From that day on
I've been corrupt

For I've held on to faith
And I've been knocking on it's gate
To let me see you one more time
Begging to never speak the truth
More than I speak of you

An interpretation of &qtA Drop Of Blood&qt:
Although it could be seen as a beautiful deification of a lover, I think &qtA Drop Of Blood&qt speaks to an actual deity, not necessarily a god, but the maker of the world, however Tamino views it to be. This song has an undoubtedly mystical and enveloping sound, as well as lyrics that evoke old sacred writings, in the way they refer to nature as a harmonic creation and address man's lure to it as an &qtold yearning&qt. Tamino has previously approached the subject of faith in his song &qtCigar&qt, looking at it with certain confusion and then acknowledging that it is only another way of coping with, or rationalizing, human fears:
&qtAnd why, am I still surprised?
About all who pray their sins away
Aren't they too a part of this grand ballet?&qt
In the last stanzas of the song, he describes what is most likely a vision (true or fictional) that he had while in the midst of pain and suffering, with the kids kicking him and his broken wrist aching. He says to have seen good, peace and truth, in the very essence of the world (in a single grain of sand or drop of blood), and finally to have viewed the deity itself in front of him. After this, he becomes &qtcorrupt&qt, as he returns to a world of violence and wrongdoing having seen the original good purpose that it was made for, and desperately tries to get back to that deity he saw.
