That no money could afford
And at times my mom was jobless
But still she found a way

Always felt like it owed me something
Cos the resources available to me
Were close to nothing
I spent most of my childhood
And teenage years playing catch
Up with the cognitive abilities sorting
Short in the classroom
Better off kids with no distractions
And I thought if
I had what they had I'd reach satisfaction
Always felt like my environment
Was lacking some essential
Nurturing required for me to
Reach my potential little kid lost in life
Lacking clarity 'til hip-hop came along and
It gave me an identity
